Smartphones will replace passports in Dubai

The new smart program allows travelers in Dubai to use their smartphones instead of a passport.

Emirates Smart Wallet launched a smart initiative that allows travelers to use their smartphones instead of passports or coupons at Dubai International Airport.

Emirates Smart Wallet is designed to facilitate airport mobility. The system is considered the first of its kind in the world, the state news agency WAM said on Wednesday.

The initiative was launched by Lieutenant General Dahi Halfan Tamim, Deputy Chief of Police and Public Security of Dubai, and Muhammad Ahmed Al-Marri, head of the Department of Naturalization and Residential Affairs in Dubai.

The first stage of the system takes into account the personal data of the traveler, Emirates ID and passport data, as well as his electronic pass. It is a step towards the implementation of a large-scale project to reduce registration procedures.

Last month, Emirates launched the Together initiative in collaboration with key partners in an effort to improve their customer experience.

The initiative is launched in conjunction with Dubai Customs, the General Directorate for Residency and Foreigners (GDRFA), Dubai Police and Dubai Airports.

The initiative aims to improve the service of travelers at Dubai International Airport with an emphasis on innovative and practical solutions that will be based on the "six S": intelligence, speed, economy, service, safety, reliability (Smart, Speed, Saving, Service, Safety, Security )
