UAE authorities: spreading rumors in social networks is a cyber crime

The Ministry of the Interior of the United Arab Emirates warns that rumors on social networks are a criminal cyber crime.

The UAE Ministry of the Interior on Thursday was forced to dispel rumors about upcoming amendments to the law on residency.

In a statement published on the official Instagram page, the Ministry denied the information about the upcoming changes, urged users not to believe inaccurate information and rely only on ads made through the official channels of the Ministry.

The ministry also warned people that spreading rumors or knowingly false news on social networks could turn into criminal liability for a cyber crime.
