In the near future, it takes less than a minute to get to Dubai Airport.

In Dubai, the construction of major road junctions is more than half completed.

Mattar Al Thayer, General Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Committee on Roads and Transport (RTA), announced that work on the first Airport Street development project, including the construction of interchanges at the intersections of Rashidiya and Casablanca, is 50% complete. He also noted that work on the second stage at the intersections of Nad Al Hamar and Marrakech streets is 40% complete. Mattar Al Thayer expects that the first phase of the project will be completed, and interchanges open to motorists in December this year, and the entire project will be completed by the first half of 2018.

In general, the project aims to increase the capacity of Airport St. an additional 5,000 vehicles per hour, increasing road safety and reducing travel time along Airport Street from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Highway to Casablanca St. from 30 to 5 minutes.

Mattar Al Thayer visited the construction sites with a check, held a meeting on the progress of each phase of the project development. Currently, the construction of a flyover between Al Khawaneej and Al Rashidiya streets, as well as the construction of one of 5 bridges at the Marrakech intersection in the same direction, has been completed. Tunnel interchanges at the Marrakech intersection will begin this July. At the moment, construction on the overpass at the Nad Al Hamar intersection is 70% completed, work on the overpass at the Casablanca intersection is 50% completed.

The project consists of the construction of interchanges, a tunnel at the Marrakech junction, overpasses at the intersection with Rashidiya Street, as well as interchanges between Airport St., Casablanca St. and Nad Al Hamar St. The project also includes the development of existing interchanges, the construction of a three-lane service road in both directions. All this will allow to unload traffic from Nad Al Hamar St. from Airport Street, from the intersection with Rashidiya to the intersection with Marrakech.
