Dubai taxi passengers take part in a charity event

Dubai authorities launched a charity initiative in 7 thousand taxis of the emirate.

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), as part of the Dirham Khair charity event, has set up funds to receive donations from passengers in 7,000 emirate taxis.

This initiative is one of seven launched by the RTA. Donations will be aimed at supporting humanitarian activities at the local, regional and international levels.

It is reported that almost 35 thousand passengers have already contributed to this initiative.

According to the RTA, passenger support is a clear testament to the spirit of unity and care shared by Dubai's citizens, residents and tourists.

"The goal of this initiative is to support cultural, educational, and charitable activities," the RTA said in a statement.

Dirham Khair gives each taxi passenger a chance to donate one dirham over the bill. A donation is also available on the separate RTA and Dubai Drive apps page in Arabic and English.

Motorists who renew vehicle registrations and driver’s licenses or pay fines through apps can also donate one dirham along with service fees.

The RTA is considering extending the initiative to all taxis in Dubai.
