Dubai police will punish jewelry company rumors

Dubai police are investigating a libel case on social media against a jewelry company.

Dubai police intends to institute criminal proceedings against five people who spread rumors on social networks about Kalyan Jewelers, an Indian jewelry manufacturer with showrooms throughout the region.

According to company representatives, five Indian citizens used social media to spread rumors that the gold sold by the brand was fake. One of them admitted his deed. An investigation into the remaining four suspects is ongoing.

Having learned about the spread of rumors, the company immediately denied false allegations on social networks and filed a complaint with the authorities.

"It is very encouraging to see the steps taken by the Dubai police regarding people who neglect social media rules," said Kalyan Jewelers chairman of the board.
