UAE Cabinet Approves Fund for Assisting Poor Citizens

At a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of the UAE, a low-income fund to help UAE citizens was established.

The UAE Cabinet of Ministers allocated 11 billion dirhams to support low-income groups over the next three years. It is worth noting that the foundation was preceded by an episode when last week an unemployed UAE citizen, Ali Al Mazrui, was ridiculed live on the radio after his request for a decent home. Mr. Al Mazrui was invited to a meeting of the UAE Cabinet, where he could discuss sensitive issues with the vice president and ministers of the country.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, tweeted about the establishment of a social assistance fund. At the same time, 3.88 billion dirhams from the fund will be allocated to help older people, 1.55 billion dirhams to provide medical care, 1.7 billion dirhams to people in crisis, 183.9 million to families of prisoners.

The UAE Cabinet studied the report of the Ministry of Community Development, identifying six main areas of support for low-income citizens: housing and basic needs, transportation, financial assistance, healthcare, education and work.

Sheikh Mohammed also appointed Mr. Ali Al Mazrui as a social processes researcher at the Ministry of Community Development.

"The story of Ali Al Mazrui has touched us all ... When at least one of our citizens suffers, the whole nation sympathizes with him," Sheikh Mohammed said at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.

"We took him today to listen to his story, because he represents the voice of the people."

Sheikh Mohammed emphasized that meeting the needs of society, especially in the social sphere, is essential for the stability of the state.

He added that one of the basic principles of all government strategies and programs is attention to the requirements of citizens. The state intends to provide broad support to the low-income population.

"Citizens of the UAE have always been and will remain a priority for the government. Today we examined the report of the Ministry of Community Development and ordered to conduct a thorough study and develop a long-term strategy on a number of issues," said the Prime Minister.

Mr. Al Mazrui thanked Sheikh Mohammed for the kindness and the work that gave him the opportunity to "serve our people."

"If our citizens have problems, state leaders always come to the rescue quickly," Al Mazrui added.
