The UAE tightened the procedure for dismissing citizens of the country

Private companies in the United Arab Emirates will find it more difficult to fire citizens.

The UAE Ministry of Emiratization and Human Resources has issued new rules that tighten the oversight of UAE citizens in the private sector.

The decision sets out the procedures for hiring citizens. In particular, they oblige enterprises to register citizens to receive pensions and other benefits.

Among the changes is the introduction of monitoring the work of the emirate’s staff and taking into account all complaints from them.

New conditions were also established for the termination of work of emirate employees and the procedure for considering cases of unlawful dismissal. The employer is now required to submit a report indicating the reasons for the termination of the employment relationship.

Earlier this month, the ministry announced that in some cases it canceled work permits for foreigners if it is possible to find a suitable replacement among UAE citizens. The announcement was part of a strategy to increase emirate employment in the private sector.
