Muslims in the UAE laid off for the hajj

Under the laws of the UAE, every Muslim can take a vacation for the pilgrimage "hajj".

In the UAE, every Muslim employee can take unpaid leave to perform a “hajj”. According to article 87 of the Labor Law, “once every employee is granted special unpaid leave for pilgrimage, and such leave is not deducted from other holidays and cannot exceed 30 days.”

As amended by the Arabic Labor Act, the word pilgrimage means “hajj”, which applies to Muslims. Moreover, in the English edition, the Labor Law may be translated inaccurately. The Arabic version of the Law prevails over English. This is indicated in article 2 of the Labor Law, which states: “All documentation, contracts, cases, statements, etc., provided for by this Law, or any orders or provisions made in accordance with it, must be drawn up in Arabic. "In Arabic, instructions and circulars issued by the employer for the employees shall be drawn up. If the employer uses a foreign language in addition to Arabic, the Arabic edition shall be considered a priority."

Based on the aforementioned provisions of the law, the employer has the right to refuse to request unpaid leave to a non-Islamic employee.
