Bloggers in the United Arab Emirates threatened with heavy fines

The authorities of the United Arab Emirates urge bloggers to license their activities.

One of the senior representatives of the UAE National Media Council said the agency has a department that monitors illegal activities on social networks.

One of the areas of work of the department is the fight against violations among popular bloggers.

Recall that in March last year, all bloggers in the UAE were required to obtain licenses for commercial activities on social networks. The license costs 15 thousand dirhams annually ($ US 4 thousand).

The fine for working without a license is 5 thousand dirhams ($ US 1.36 thousand).

“When we identify any illegal activity, we call and warn. If this offense is repeated, we will impose a fine on them,” said Nasser al-Tamimi, manager of the media licensing department at the National Council.
