Long weekend in UAE marked by multiple accidents

950 road crashes occurred in Dubai on a long weekend - during the Eid al-Adha festival.

Dubai, UAE. Dubai police recorded 950 road crashes during the religious holiday of Eid al-Adha - from 10 to 13 August 2019. In addition, local residents made more than 28 thousand calls to the police, many of which were urgent.

Colonel Turki bin Fares, the head of the police dispatch center, recalled that number 901 is valid for general issues and only 999 is for calling the rescue service. More than 20 thousand calls, at the same time, were received at the remotes of the Sharjah police on duty, another 32 thousand were sent to Abu Dhabi.

The police say that a long weekend is a time of peak workload for rescue services: residents of the country often travel by car with their families, and the number of car tourists is growing.

The officers reminded the drivers of the need to check the tires and the pressure in them before the trip, especially in the summer heat: last year, bursting tires were responsible for more than 100 deaths on the roads.
