Catch Barracuda and Caranx!

ALMOST EVERYONE OF US AT LEAST ONE IN ITS LIFE I tried to catch a fish on the hook and felt the adrenaline rush during the bite, therefore, I could understand those for whom the fishing had become unstoppable. DIMA - JUST FROM SUCH FISHERS-ATHLETES. FOR THREE YEARS OF LIFE IN THE EMIRATES, HE HEARED HERE THE MOST FISHING PLACES AND CAN SHARE INFORMATION WHERE GIVING THE MOST RICH IS AND DIVERSITY OF UNDERWATER LIVING.

Where are we going?

I don’t know who how, but I divide fishing in the waters of the Indian Ocean into two categories: in the Persian (Jebel Ali, Ajman, Sharjah, Dubai) and the Gulf of Oman (Fujairah, Oman). For me, the second option is preferable, but I will talk about sea hunting in different directions.

Fujairah

The most popular types of fishing:

  • on live bait - mahimahi (dorado), tuna, rainbow runner (mackerel), barracuda and quini.
  • vertical jig and fishing both on artificial baits and on squid-tuna, hamur (stone grouper), cobia (a family close to the horse mackerel).
  • trolling- mahimahi, sailboat, marlin, tuna.

Fishing, as a rule, takes place in the parking areas of oil tankers, of which there are about two thousand. The constructions are overgrown with shell rock and other organisms, creating artificial reefs and attracting a large number of marine animals.

Musandam (Oman)

A more inaccessible place than in Fujairah, but fishing is much more interesting here: you can catch caranx weighing up to 35 kg - a welcome trophy for many fishermen! I’ll tell you about the hunt for him below.

Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman

I went fishing just a few times. The place is more suitable for families. Hamur, barracuda are well caught. Less often you can see kingfish (royal croaker), bonito tuna, cobia (sychil).

As for the cost of fishing in different directions, everything is simple: if you want to have a boat with a good level of gear and a “straight-handed” captain, get ready to pay US $ 6001200 in 48 hours. If you are comfortable fishing with your hands on the Sultan-Ibrahim (drum) in and sherry (sea bass), you can meet the US $ 300,600.

To Oman!

I once fished in southern Oman, on the islands of Halaniyat. They traveled with friends along the route: Dubai-Muscat-Salalah, then - 3.5 hours by car and an hour by boat. Earlier, I noticed - the place is notable for the fact that a giant caranx of 35 kg is caught here. Record - 65 kg! I’ll keep silent about other types of fish, since I was going to hunt for it for 2 full days (4 exits). And, as it usually happens, it didn’t turn out exactly as planned: Oman Air a little confused our plans, delaying the flight for 2 hours, and we were late for the connecting flight from Muscat to Salalah. Then they delayed the flight from Muscat for 7 hours, and everything went head over heels, because we no longer had time to get to the islands in the dark. We arrived in Salalah at one in the morning, instead of the planned 14:00. We agreed with the driver that he would pick us up from the hotel at 4 in the morning and take us to the port, where the boat would come for us. Everything went without a hitch, and at 8:30 we were already there.

Who does not know, karanksa fishing is not only pleasure, but also labor: all day you drop weighty bait and do jerky wiring with a lot of splashes and ghosts.

By evening, you do not feel neither arms, nor legs, nor back! After three full exits, we had no more strength left, and from the catch there was always not a large garfish and albatross. In addition to us, the British fished on the island, who arrived two days earlier, but they only have a waho in their basket. We doubted whether to make another exit on the day of departure, but still got up at five in the morning.

A small charge to disperse the blood, a light breakfast, and go! Caught an hour from the base - all in vain. They took a light spinning to relax a bit and look around, who lives in local waters, went to an underwater reef near the island. Large flocks of horse mackerel circled next to us. I changed the popper to a slider and started casting in the thick of the pack.

Only half an hour was left until the end of fishing, the mood was “below the baseboard” ... And then my slider was attacked on a slow walking guide! Feels like in his hands, collided with a locomotive going at full speed!

Hands were buzzing, the coil whistled - this went on for about twenty minutes. The fish pulled to the depths, with my whole body I hung over the deck in a horizontal position. Everyone had doubts: is it a wah? Maybe a big grouper. ... But we did not guess. Of the waves - oh, a miracle! - the smooth back of a huge Caranx sparkled in the sun! The very one we came here for.

Perhaps, in terms of “drive” and bite activity, fishing in Musandam is more interesting, and Southern Oman is a little calmer - only three bites for six full outings to the sea, and only one effective one. But what a! So, experiment, friends, and good luck to you.
