March 26, 2010 in Dubai (UAE) was a round table discussion "The Russian language as part of the Russian world and world culture." The event was organized by the Council of the Association of Russian Compatriots (SARS) in the UAE with the support of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the UAE and the Orthodox parish of St. Philip.

The round table was attended by representatives of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the UAE (wife of the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the UAE, E. V. Andreeva, 1st Secretary of the Embassy A. A. Agarkov), Chairman of the SARS Abbot Alexander (Zarkeshev), Deputy. SARS Chairman E. G. Tarilova, coordinator of the site of compatriots of the Middle East and Africa S. A. Tokarev, teachers of Russian schools in the UAE, editors and representatives of Russian-language media, foreign graduates of Russian universities, representatives of the Russian-speaking community in the UAE. The event was aimed at strengthening the position of the Russian language and stimulating its study in the Arab countries, expanding the boundaries of the spread of Russian culture and providing active assistance to people interested in the cultural and spiritual life of the Russian world, all studying the Russian language.

During the round table, its participants discussed the following topics: "The Russian language is an integral part of the spiritual heritage of mankind", "Modern Russian language: development trends (especially the use of the Russian language in the UAE and the Persian Gulf countries)", "Features of teaching the Russian language in Russian schools in the UAE "," Problems of the development of Russian-language media in the Arab countries "," Russian as a means of communication in mixed families "," Problems of using the Russian language in translation activities "," The role of the Russian language in life and rofessionalnoy activity of graduates of Russian universities. "

The participants in the round table noted with satisfaction the increased attention of the Russian state to the affairs of compatriots, support and preservation of the Russian language outside the Russian Federation. At the same time, it was noted that the existing potential for promoting the Russian language and culture is not yet fully utilized.

Representatives of the Russian-language media in the UAE addressed the issues of neoplasms in modern Russian, drew attention to youth slang, which is often used on the Internet, and how disrespectful Russian-speaking citizens themselves relate to their native language, being outside their homeland. Of particular interest, in particular, was a report by Elena Olkhovskaya, editor-in-chief of the Russian Emirates Publishing House, who spoke about the low level of knowledge of the mother tongue among adults: "In his daily conversation with colleagues on work, people close to us, and even our children, we manage to speak a terrible mixture of Russian and English with interspersed different words taken from the Arabic language. This is our daily routine. While we will be people who do not know our language, do not respect it, and our attitude towards us will be appropriate. And our children will speak an unknown language, assembled like a puzzle, from fragments of different dialects of the world. "

During the round table, specific recommendations and suggestions were made on the development of the Russian language and culture in the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf, in particular, on the opening of the Russian library and Russian language courses at the Cultural and Educational Center of the Russian Orthodox Parish of the Holy Apostle Philip in Sharjah, the opening of the Russian school at the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Abu Dhabi, the Days of the Russian language and culture in the UAE, the intensification of efforts to promote the Russian language, literature and multinational culture of Russia, etc.
